Hello! My name is Cristina, I am the founder and operator of Doula Bula. Probably wondering why the name? Well since a child my family has always called me "Bula" with no real meaning or reasoning. At age 30, they still call me Bula. Fun Fact: Bula is the most common word you'll hear right across Fiji and it is used to greet people or say hello. When you say Bula to someone, you are actually wishing them life, which is why I found it so fitting for my new endeavor.
I am a wife of 10+ years, momma to 3 and Surrogate momma to 2. I love supporting and educating others about birth and it was through my own birth experiences that I found my calling.
In 2018 I began my trainings, developing many certificates and skills along the way. Since launching my business in 2019, I’ve encapsulated over 100 placentas, attended 5 births, and supported 2 postpartum families as well as 2 same sex families.
I have a passion for supporting others and feel honored to be able to share my expertise with women and families near by.
My services include educational, emotional, and physical support during the childbearing year.

Placenta encapsulation is the practice of ingesting the placenta after it has been steamed or raw, dehydrated, ground, and placed into pills. Traditionally, this is taken by the mother and is believed to include numerous health benefits. Capsules frequently are taken shortly after giving birth, during a women's menstrual cycle, or during menopause with the belief it helps counter some symptoms of menopause. If choosing me as your Doula as well, or in Modesto or near by area Placenta encapsulation services discounted.
I pick up 8am-8pm most days. Please bring a small cooler, (or contact me and I can provide you with one) and 2 1-gallon zip lock bags to double bag your placenta to the hospital. Keep your placenta on ice, the nursing staff can supply ice as needed. If I am your Doula I will bring placenta home with me. Please check the ice regularly to ensure proper cooling is maintained. If pick-up is delayed or if your hospital requires immediate removal of the placenta, it can be stored in your fridge for 48 hours. Please freeze if it will be with you longer than that. Most placenta capsules, tinctures, and salves are ready for pick-up within 48 hours. Tinctures do take an additional 6 weeks to infuse before they are ready for use. Safe storage is important to me. I check the temperature of placenta at time of pick up and store it in a dedicated refrigerator with thermometer. The preparation space and equipment is cleaned with hospital grade disinfectant before and after preparation of your placenta. Multi use equipment is cleaned and then soaked in a hospital grade disinfectant. Followed by a wash with clean water. I always use personal protective equipment (PPE): mask, hair covering, gloves, goggles and gown. I only ever process one placenta at a time and generally only have one placenta in my possession at a time. If a home birth and I am your doula you have the option to encapsulate in your own home.
